A windy, love-filled, rockstar wedding...
On Saturday, 11 September 2021, I was lucky enough to shoot the wedding of the most gorgeous couple – Tasha & Mick.
Now, when I say it was a rockstar wedding, I mean it was an ACTUAL rockstar wedding. These two lovebirds make up one half of the amazing Brisbane band, Smoking Martha. Tasha is the spectacular lead singer and her gorgeous husband Mick is the guitarist.
We only found eachother about 10 days out from their wedding after the photographer they had lined up unfortunately couldn’t make it to their wedding. A mutual friend put us in touch and I initially thought I’d be recommending another photographer to them because I had to attend my sister-in-law’s engagement party on the same day. Then I started talking to Tasha and I heard that the wedding was going to be held at The Pink Hotel at Coolangatta (dream venue!!), there was going to be a rooftop party in the afternoon, a quick dress change before the sunset ceremony, a live band and an epic garden party afterwards – I was sold! There was no way I was recommending anyone else to them – it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
To say I was nervous was an understatement, but chatting to Tash in the lead up to the big day and seeing her inspo photos (think Vegas/rockstar wedding) was just the reassurance I needed that this was an opportunity not to be missed!
I was a little frazzled when I arrived in Coolangatta for the wedding because I had somehow missed a turn off from the highway and ended up in New South Wales. Driving in to Coolangatta from Tweed Heads, I had The Pink Hotel directly in front of me but I also had a giant orange barricade and a police checkpoint to get through. After pleading my case, showing the police officer photos of my son playing rugby in Brisbane earlier that morning and assuring him that I did not get out of my car at any point on the journey, I was free!
Tash and Mick were an absolute dream to capture. These two have been together for 20 YEARS and it was pretty clear that they were the absolute best of friends. The whole day was about as non-traditional as you can get which was perfectly fine with me - I particularly loved being able to capture some photos of the two of them together before they went upstairs to kick off the celebrations with their rooftop party.
Being able to capture the magic between Tasha and Mick (and that of their adoring family and friends) was an absolute privelege.
